Fighter gets an evasive attack skill that gets damage boosted when dodging an attack. Mystic Knight gets a whole host of elemental augments that makes the shield hurt enemies when they attack. Just play Mystic Knight-- the game will make you an excellent Mystic Knight by default. It's a very good idea to have the augments from other vocations to supplement magick, strength and the speed at which you cast your spells (Articulacy and the Wyrmking's Ring are both great for MKs), but unless you go adventuring as such acquiring them would involve grinding.
