Those old farmers would stand in awe and try to figure out how Dad got that big motor in a stock Ford 8N. There used to be Funk V8 conversions, but this one had those beat hands-down. It was a conversion with attitude. Funk built a series of conversion kits for the 8N that exchanged the stock inline-four for a flathead inline-six, a flathead V-8, or a Ford industrial overhead-valve 215-cubic-inch inline-six. This final kit, by far the rarest of the three, substantially improved output to 96 horsepower.When Ron Stauffer began repowering an old Ford 8N tractor with a V-8 truck engine last winter, he had no idea he'd wind up with marketing rights to a key piece of equipment that made the job a snap.The 8n can pull as much as 2550 lb, the 850, 5170 and the 650, 3860 at their max weight. And since the V8 conversions were known for breaking drive parts I would bet the 2.8 V6 will be a good match to the strength limits of the 'N' tranny & diff.
